Domaine Guigal was founded by Étienne Guigal in 1946, in Ampuis, a small and very old village considered to be the birthplace of the Côte-Rôtie appellation. Ampuis is home to a unique winegrowing area where vines and wines have been celebrated for 2,400 years. Étienne Guigal arrived in Ampuis in 1924 at the age of 14 and went on to make 67 Côte-Rôtie vintages. In 1961, a still very young Marcel Guigal took over the running of the company alongside his father, who had suddenly lost his sight. In 1973, Marcel Guigal was joined by his wife Bernadette, and together they worked hard to ensure that the family business prospered. Their son Philippe, who is now the company’s winemaker, was born in 1975. Alongside his wife Ève, Philippe represents the third generation of the family and continues its long tradition of crafting fine Rhône Valley wines. HVE3 certified. Guigal vinifies and ages the Northern Rhône Valley AOCs such as Condrieu, Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage in its cellars in Ampuis. The great southern AOCs of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Tavel and Côtes-du-Rhône are also aged in the Ampuis cellars.
