Born into a family of market gardeners in Tupin Semons, Louis Clerc soon made up his mind that it was winegrowing he was interested despite his parents’ opposition. Although he originally studied agriculture, the idea of producing wine persisted. After several decades as an arboriculturist, he acquired 8 hectares of vines on hillsides in the Condrieu and Côte Rôtie AOCs.
At the turn of the century, Louis Clerc made a carefully considered decision to invest in modern equipment, including temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, and to set up his own winery.
At the time, he jokingly described himself as “an old guy, but a young winemaker”. His son, Martin, shared his passion for the vine and had long accompanied him on the hillsides.
The story of Louis Clerc, the man who built his own wine estate, continues with Martin Clerc, who is studying viticulture and oenology. He continues along the path laid out by his father, with the same passion that his father had passed on to him, always bearing in mind what his father liked to say: “the winegrower’s job begins at the foot of the vine; to make a good wine, you need good grapes”.
