The Gaillard family, headed by Pierre Gaillard and his three adult children, is at the helm of four wine domaines on the steep hillsides of the Northern Rhône, Faugères and Banyuls. These domaines all have hilly, rocky landscapes with a schist terroir that, in the sunny climate, lends the wines a great deal of character, elegance and complexity. Whether located in the north or south, the Gaillard Family domaines apply the same high standards and attention to detail, from the vine to the bottle.
The story began in 1981 when Pascale and Pierre Gaillard moved to Malleval. Having to start from scratch, Pierre first began by clearing the land and planting the first vines at Clos de Cuminaille in the Saint-Joseph AOC. Since then, he has, with his own hands, built up a 25-hectare vineyard holding on the Northern Rhône Valley’s steepest hillsides.
Recognised as a reference in the Northern Rhône Valley by his peers and wine critics, Pierre now works closely with his three adult children. Together, they are perpetuating the Gaillard heritage through the creation of fleshy wines that are always imbued with finesse and elegance.
