Domaine Richard

Hervé Richard took up the reins of his wine domaine in Chavanay in 1984, following in the footsteps of two generations of winegrower-arboriculturists. Thanks to the revival of the Condrieu AOC and the growth of the Saint Joseph AOC, he was able to specialise in these two Rhône Valley Grands Crus, with the support of his parents.
Over the years, Hervé and his wife Marité have added some remarkable wines to their portfolio, including
Condrieu Cuvée L’Amaraze, originating from vines located in the commune of Saint Michel sur Rhône, 1/3 aged in barrels and 2/3 in vats for one year. This great hillside vineyard white wine is distinguished by its lovely smoothness, subtlety and great aromatic complexity with aromas of violets, apricots and peaches, underpinned by a light oakiness.
Condrieu Cuvée M… de Martial: Originating from 40-year-old vines growing in the commune of Verlieu, aged entirely in barrels previously used for 1 and 2 fills. This fine white wine is very voluptuous on the palate, with aromas of peaches, peach blossom, spices (cinnamon and nutmeg) and a lovely minerally finish.
Condrieu Le Noble: produced from grapes that have been left to ripen for an extra month, this sweet white wine reveals aromas of jammy fruit, such as apricots and peaches, with smoothness and finesse, underpinned by a slight crispiness.
The range is rounded off by 3 Saint Joseph red wines (Cuvée Prémices, Cuvée Les Nuelles Vieilles Vignes and Cuvée Mêverie), the Saint Joseph white wine Cuvée Charmen, and two IGP wines: Syrah and Viognier Vilain Petit Canard. The domaine has been HVE-certified since 2019.
Thanks to the domaine’s family ownership, Hervé and Marité Richard are involved in every stage of the wine production process, from the vineyard through to the sale of the end wines. Working within considerable geographical constraints (steep hillsides), they strive to respect the natural and human environment as much as possible. HVE certified.
