Les Vins de Vienne

In 1996, friends Yves Cuilleron, Pierre Gaillard and François Villard, all well-known wine producers from the right bank of the Rhône River, embarked on a great adventure: to revive the ancient vineyards of Seyssuel. Crossing the Rhône, they replanted a few hectares of Syrah on the edge of Château des Archevêques and produced their first vintage in 1998. It was a childhood dream come true and they continued to pursue their slightly mad adventure…
They then decided to buy vineyards throughout the Northern Rhône Valley. Since then, they have constantly been developing the Domaines des Vins de Vienne. Today, it covers 28 hectares: 12 hectares on the Seyssuel hillsides, in the north of the Rhône Valley, planted with Syrah and Viognier, where they produce 3 IGP Collines Rhodaniennes wines: Sotanum, Héluicum and Taburnum, as well as 16 hectares in the Northern Rhône Valley, in the AOCs of Côte Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint Joseph, Saint Péray, Crozes-Hermitage, Brézème and Cornas.
Since 1998, the company has also been developing its “négociant vinificateur” business in the Northern Rhône Valley. An in-house oenologist monitors the plot of vines within their 20 hectares or so of AOC vineyards. The vinification work is carried out in Chavanay.
For the southern AOCs – Gigondas, Châteauneuf du Pape, Vacqueyras, Cairanne – the wines are selected at the producer’s winery and then transported to the domaine’s cellars for ageing.
