Our story began in 1925 when my great-grandfather, Benoit Chirat, left the village of La Chapelle Villard for Saint-Michel-sur-Rhône. His Syrah wines used to be sold in the bars of Condrieu.
The great expansion of the wine domaine began in 1980 when Gilbert, my father, a young farmer, decided to give up mixed farming and take up winegrowing on Condrieu’s vertiginous terraces full-time.
I joined him in 2012 and together we expanded the domaine into the Côte-Rôtie and Saint-Joseph AOCs.
I strive to maintain the quality of my father’s wines while taking advantage of the experience gained from my studies and the various wine regions in which I have made wine (New Zealand, the South of France and Burgundy).
The work in the vineyards, at the heart of our domaine, has been continuously carried out with respect for the environment and biodiversity for four generations. In fact, the winegrowing methods we use are founded on sustainable viticulture, enabling the grapes to reveal the full complexity of the finest terroirs in the Northern Rhône Valley.
The High Environmental Value (HVE) certification held since the 2018 vintage is proof of this.
