Domaine Novis

Our domaine sits in the heart of the Northern Rhône Valley, 40 km south of Lyon. We work in the Saint Joseph and Condrieu A.O.P.s, which extend over the foothills of the Massif Central (the Parc Naturel Régional du Pilat) and right
down to the right bank of the Rhône River.
Our AOP vineyards are located in the communes of Saint-Pierre-de-Boeuf and Malleval and cover 8 hectares of AOP vines and 4 hectares of Vin de Pays. The vineyards have been in the family for three generations. Xavier’s father (Michel Novis) and uncle (Jean-Michel Chapas) planted the vines in 2001 with a view to helping him set up. Xavier produced his first wine in 2005. From then on, he regularly planted new vines and vinified the grapes from more and more harvests. Xavier likes to experiment and in 2013 he vinified two new grape varieties: Chardonnay and Gamay, which became our Vins de Pays. In 2014, he produced his first Condrieau. In 2020, after 10 years of chatting to each other about their work and future ambitions, entering into a partnership with Philippe Chabert seemed the natural thing to do. Philippe, meanwhile, had started his fruit-growing business in 1995, and planted his first vines in 2001, on the “showcase hillside” located at the belvedere in Saint-Pierre-de-Boeuf. Together, Philippe and Xavier planted and vinified some Syrah and Marsanne grapes and created “L’Exception”, a new Saint-Joseph Red wine.
